What does James Bond and NASA, the Moon and the Olympic Games, Britain’s Royal Flying Corps and George Clooney or Buzz Aldrin have in common with Prince William? The answer is Swiss Omega, the brand used by James Bond since 1995, the first watch on the Moon, worn by Buzz Aldrin on the Apollo 11 mission, the official timekeeping device of the Olympic Games since 1932; official timekeepers for the combat units of Britain’s Royal Flying Corps since 1917 and American Army in 1918.
Omega Seamaster Watches
With the latest James Bond film "Skyfall" hitting US theaters on November 9th, 2012 Swiss Omega has announced a new limited edition model to tie in with the 23rd installment in the franchise. This is distinct from the Omega 50th anniversary of James Bond 007 movies watch. The announcement of the new Seamaster Planet Ocean 600M "Skyfall" Limited Edition confirms that Daniel Craig will again wear a Seamaster PO as he reprises his role as 007. This is despite online rumors that Bond might have traded his famous diver for an Aqua Terra model.
A couple of months ago, Robert-Jan had the opportunity to give an overview of the new collection. The watches are an interesting move from Omega Mens Watch as they were introduced outside of Basel and the debut actually occurred in New York. There’s no doubt that it has made waves. We received a lot of traffic on the article and while most found the watches attractive, most wanted to see them in the metal – umm, ceramic as it were – before rendering judgment.
When Swiss Omega introduced the Ploprof 1200M back in 2009, I was actually happily surprised to see that they did such an amazing job. The resemblance with the original Omega Ploprof 600M 166.077 was amazing. On first sight, the new Omega Seamaster PloProf 1200M looked identical to the PloProf 600M version of almost 40 years earlier. On Fratellowatches we wrote about the PloProf watches several times, but never took the time to put the two models together and have a closer look.
Baselworld 2016 officially begins tomorrow, but the press/media kick-off is today and so thus the new releases start flowing. I’m gonna start with look at the new revamped Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean Watches collection, specifically the new SMPO 43.5mm “Master Chronometer” in black and orange.
